Islanders, Wildcats Meet for First Time Saturday at the Dugan Wellness Center

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball team will host first-year Southland Conference member Abilene Christian University on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. in the Dugan Wellness Center. The Islanders are off to the best Southland Conference start in program history after a 3-1 victory Thursday night at home against Incarnate Word.

The Islanders come into Saturday's match with a 9-7 record including a 4-1 record in conference play. The Islanders have won six of its last seven matches and currently sits behind three undefeated teams in the conference standings. Oral Roberts, Central Arkansas and Sam Houston State all sit at 5-0.

Ivy Baresh is leading the Islanders' offense this season with 3.39 kills per set (5th SLC) and 193 kills on the year. Junior Brianna Brink is right behind Baresh with 2.86 kills per set (15th SLC) and 163 total kills while senior Logen Bourque is leading the team with 10.59 assists per set  (2nd SLC). She has collected 614 assists this season for a total of 3,820 assists in her career. Defensively, Hailey King powers the team with 4.02 digs per set (8th SLC) and 229 digs on the year. Freshman Shaquinn Parker is leading the Islanders at the net with 34 total blocks this season, including 28 block assists.

The Islanders lead the conference in assists with 12.79 per set, third in kills with 13.47 per set and fourth in digs with 15.78 per set. In conference matches only, the Islanders lead the league with 17.22 digs per set.

Abilene Christian enters Saturday's match with a 5-8 record including a 1-4 record in conference play. The Wildcats are coming off a 3-2 loss to Houston Baptist Thursday night on the road. Prior to that, Abilene Christian topped Nicholls 3-0. The Wildcats have lost four of their last five matches. Jennifer Loerch leads the Wildcats' offense with 150 kills on .109 hitting. Sarah Siemens runs the offense and is averaging 8.19 assists per set. Defensively, the Wildcats are powered by Madison Hoover who is averaging 4.23 digs per set. Lexi Mercier controls the net with 1.54 blocks per et.   

Saturday's match will mark the first time the Islanders and Wildcats have faced each other in program history.
