Brink, Bourque Tabbed Preseason All-Southland Conference

CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M - Corpus Christi junior Brianna Brink was named Preseason First Team All-Southland Conference and senior Logen Bourque earned Preseason Second Team All-Southland recognition, the league announced today.

"I'm really happy to see Brianna and Logen recognized on the preseason team and fully expect them to be there again at the end of the season," head coach Tony Graystone said. "Bri has improved each year and should be one of the top offensive players in the conference as a junior. I'm especially excited for Logen. She hasn't received much recognition during her career but has developed into one of the best setters in the Southland. She's going to have a great senior season."

Brink, an outside hitter from Corona, Calif., finished second on the team last season in kills with 289 and led the team with a season match-high 24 kills against Nevada. She was an honorable mention selection following the 2012 season and earned a spot on the Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Bourque, a setter from Houston, set the all-time career assist mark last season for an Islander while leading the team with a season-high 1,070 assists. She also tallied her first career triple-double and was the first Islander to do so since 2005 with 10 kills, 13 digs and 39 assists against Lamar. Bourque earned Southland Second Team All-Academic at the conclusion of last season and, like Brink, was recognized on the Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll list. She earned the Islanders Volleyball Scholar-Athlete Award and the Islanders Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award after posting a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall while in-season.

"There is a lot of parity in the conference right now and it should be a very exciting season," Graystone added. "Our players are really fired up and can't wait to get started. We have a lot of talent on this team and we have had a very successful preseason. The team is well ahead of where we were last August and the team looks like a confident group. Our fans should be really excited about the 2013 Islanders."

The Islanders just wrapped the first week of practices last week and will kick the season off in Denver, traveling to the Pioneer Classic for a two-day tournament on Aug. 30-31. On the opening day, the Islanders will take on UC Irvine before facing the Pioneers and Air Force on Saturday, Aug. 31. Texas A&M - Corpus Christi will host its first match of the season on Monday, Sept. 9, against UTSA at the Dugan Wellness Center.
