Volleyball Hosts Nicholls in Southland Conference Tilt

The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Volleyball team will play a Southland Conference match at home for the first time in 26 days this Thursday when the Nicholls Colonels come to town. The match is set for a 7 p.m. start at the Dugan Wellness Center and will feature 70's vs. 90's costume contest and is also Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night.

The Islanders (16-9, 8-5 Southland) come into the match looking to snap a three-match Southland Conference skid after losses at first-place Sam Houston, second-place Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts to end the recent six-match Southland road trip. Nicholls (10-16, 5-10 Southland) lost at home against Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State after a road win over McNeese State in the last three matches.

Earlier in the year Texas A&M – Corpus Christi swept the Colonels in Thibodaux, La. by a 3-0 score on Sept. 27 at Stopher Gym on the Nicholls State campus. Shannon Hullum managed a match-high 11 kills in the first meeting, Logen Bourque led in both assists (34) and digs (12) and Micah Nolan finished with 10 digs on the night.

Hullum leads the team in kills for the season, picking up 240 to edge out Brianna Brink, who is just four kills behind at 236 on the year. Ivy Baresh has also surpassed 200 kills on the season with a total of 217, while Brooke Alverson is at 162 in 2012. Alverson also leads the team with 70 total blocks while Tyger Holt is second at 50 and Hullum rounds out the top three with 49 blocks.

Bourque has 861 assists this year, and needs just two to become the first Islanders player with 3,000 career assists in program history. Micah Nolan is also close to a milestone number as an Islander and needs just 10 digs to become the first player to total 1,5000 in a career. Nolan and Bourque have both held the top spot for their respective categories in the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi record book since the end of last season.

Jennifer Brandt leads the way for the Colonels, amassing 265 kills on the year to pace Nicholls. Sarah Terry (199), Jessica Addicks (161), Jasmine Harris (114) and Kathryn Scott (104) have also eclipsed the 100-kill mark on the year for the Colonels. Nancy Taylor leads the team with 701 assists; while Jeanne Logarbo has a high of 296 digs on the season and Addicks leads the team with 78 total blocks on the year.
