Shannon Hullum Named Student-Athlete of the Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Shannon Hullum has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Hullum earned the award for her performance in the Islanders four matches last weekend.

Hullum was named to the TCU Invitational All-Tournament Team, and totaled 41 kills over four matches, including 13 against SMU in the tourney finale and 13 against former Southland foe UT Arlington in a non-conference match. The win against UTA on Labor Day was just the second in program history over the Mavs, and the Islanders did it in dominating fashion with a 3-0 sweep.

In the tournament opener, Hullum had eight kills and three block assists, following that up with a seven kill performance against host TCU. In addition to her 13 kills against SMU, she had another three block assists, and added one block solo and one block assist against UTA to round out play during the week.

Hullum and the rest of the volleyball team will be back in action this coming weekend in the final pre-conference tournament of the season. The team will play in the Mean Green Invitational against Hofstra, Eastern Michigan and host North Texas.
