Islanders Back on the Road to Face Texas – Pan American

Fresh off of two wins in the Baylor Classic, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi volleyball team will hit the road again for a non-conference match on Tuesday night, traveling to Edinburg to take on Texas – Pan American. The match is set for a 6:30 p.m. start in the UTPA Fieldhouse.

The Islanders come into the contest with a 2-1 record after getting a pair of wins over Tulane and Nevada in the Baylor Classic this past weekend. UTPA is 1-2 overall, losing matches to Stephen F. Austin and UT Arlington before taking a 3-0 sweep over Savannah State in the final match of the UTA Invitational.

Brianna Brink led the way for the Islanders in the tournament; picking up 36 total kills, including matching a career-high 24 kills against Nevada in the final match of the weekend. Brink was named all-tournament alongside libero Micah Nolan, who gathered 50 digs and three service aces to lead Texas A&M – Corpus Christi on the defensive front.

Krysta Freitas of UTPA was named all-tournament in the UTA Invitational, where she picked up a double-double with a career-high 15 kills to go along with 16 digs against SFA. She added six kills, 12 digs and two blocks against UTA before finishing with five service aces, six kills and seven digs against Savannah State.

After the midweek match, the Islanders will return home before traveling to the TCU Invitational beginning on Friday, Aug. 31, at 4:30 p.m. against Army. The team will finish the weekend against host TCU at 12:30 p.m. and SMU at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
