CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's tennis team will host Texas Pan-American Monday at 3 p.m. in the second home match of the season at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center. The Islanders (2-1) are coming off a dominating 5-0 victory over Prairie View A&M on Wednesday.
"Our girls are excited about playing at home," Director of Tennis Steve Moore said. "Pan-American is always tough, so we know we need to be ready to play each point separate with intensity. I feel like the girls are working extremely hard and getting better every week. We had some very strong practices this week.
"The new girls are learning very quickly and the senior captains are being tremendous leaders. These girls love competing at home in front of the great Corpus Christi crowds we get."
On Wednesday, the Islanders garnered the doubles point and went on to win four straight singles matches against the Panthers. Senior captains Stefania Nicolae and Sandra Burges each clinched their singles matches while sophomores Celia Rodriguez and Maider Martin also picked up victories. Martin clinched the match in the No. 2 position after grabbing a tight three-setter to lead the Islanders to their second victory of the season.

The Islanders only loss of the early season came on the road in Houston against Southern Miss. The Islanders dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 loss that came down to a 10-point super tiebreaker in the third set.
