The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Women's Tennis team will host its first home match of the 2013 season on Thursday afternoon in a 1 p.m. match against Texas – Pan American at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders come into the match with an undefeated record of 3-0 after earning a 7-0 sweep of Prairie View A&M on Tuesday night, and have had an impressive start to the 2013 year. UTPA is 0-4 on the year and is coming off of a 5-2 loss against former Southland Conference member UTSA in San Antonio.
The teams have met several times throughout the years, with the Islanders holding a 17-2 edge over the Broncs since the inception of the program.
Maider Martin (No. 2), Sandra Burges (No. 3) and Stefania Nicolae (No. 4) come into the match undefeated in singles, and will look to keep the streak going against UTPA. Celia Rodriguez Delgado is 2-0 on the year, while Leanne Mascall is 2-1 overall.
The team is also undefeated as a whole in doubles action. Doris Kuselj and Nicolae (No. 1), alongside Burges and Chelsea Horan (No. 2), are 2-0 on the year. Mascall and Nicolae teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles against Prairie View A&M, Martin and Mia Matuszak did the same at No. 2 and Rodrigues Delgado and Ashley Garza won at No. 3 to complete the sweep.
Admission to all matches at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center is free to the public, so fans are encouraged to come out and cheer on the women's team in the home opener against the Broncs.
