The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's tennis team will travel to Northwestern State this Saturday for a Southland Conference match in Natchitoches, La. looking to continue the best start in school history. Match time is set for 11 a.m. on the NSU campus.
The Islanders women are off to a 6-1 start this season, with the only loss coming against No. 41 Rice. They will face a 4-1 Northwestern State team that has been one of the elite teams in the last few years and has lost only to Houston this season.
Team Captain Mirna Cicak will lead the team into the tilt as the Islanders look to improve their standings in the Southland Conference. The team is currently in second place of the standing early on, behind just 2-0 UT Arlington in the league.
The senior player at No. 1 singles is 6-1 on the year as well, with her only loss coming against Rice's nationally ranked No. 1 singles player.
The match will be another big test for the team in Southland Conference action, with it being the first true road match of the year in league play. Earlier in the season, the Islanders faced off against Central Arkansas in Dallas due to travel distance for both teams.
