Women’s Tennis Players Speak to Area Students About Foreign Experience

Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's tennis players Sandra Burges and Stefania Nicolae spoke to Mathis High School students on Friday as part of the Ambassador's Suitcase program at the University.

The Ambassador's Suitcase is a citizen diplomacy project that strives to establish a better cultural understanding among South Texas middle and high school students. The program allows Texas A&M – Corpus Christi international students to present their country to South Texas students and retirees at Trinity Towers.

Nicolae is a native of Pitesti, Romania while Burges calls Zaragoza, Spain her home. The Islanders duo visited the students to discuss their experiences as international students and to talk about the differences between European and United States education systems. They also shared the culture from their homeland with the high schoolers.

The participation in the program is just one of the ways that the tennis program and all of Islanders Athletics are helping give back to the Corpus Christi community.
