Top Moment No. 10: Women's Tennis Team Defeats SFA to Give Them Fourth Loss of Year

With the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's tennis team playing the role of underdog against the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks late in the season, the Islanders upset SFA to hand them just their fourth loss of the season.

The win guaranteed the team its first-ever winning record in Southland Conference play and was just the fifth win over the Ladyjacks in program history. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi came into the match with a record of 8-5 while SFA was an intimidating 18-3 on the year.

Despite the discrepancy in wins, the Islanders fought their way to victory with a 4-3 final. The team swept the doubles matches for an early 1-0 lead as the teams of Mirna Cicak and Doris Kuselj at No. 1, Bianca Discordia and Sandra Burges at No. 2 and Mia Matuszak and Stefania Nicolae at No. 3 each won their match.

In singles, wins from Kuselj at No. 2, Nicolae at No. 4 and Burges at No. 5 singles completed the victory in the final weekend of the regular season.

The win propelled the team to a tie for fourth in the league standings, the best finish in school history.
