ISLANDER WOMEN HIT COURT FOR NCAA TEXAS REGIONAL AT BAYLOR
Waco - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team will be back on the court after a week off as members take part in the ITA Texas Regional, one of several NCAA Regionals going on around the country
In the first round, Leanne Mascall will face off against Diana Mendez of Lamar at 9 AM in the morning on Friday. Bianca Discordia will take on Giorgia Pozzan of Sam Houston State in a 10:30 AM match the same day. Mirna Cicak will also take part in the tournament as part of the top draw.
Doris Kuselj is coming off of her tournament win at the Louisiana-Lafayette Invitational two weeks ago. Kuselj won the A Draw in that tournament, the top flight at the event. Kuselj will take on Brittney Byrd of UT Arlington, in a 10:30 AM match. She has made the finals of an official ITA sanctioned event and won the other tournament she has played in this fall season. She has lost just one match in her first collegiate action.
"We tell them every day that morale is earned," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "This group wants very badly to build a tradition and lift this team up to a national level.
"This group is doing all of the things that we want them to do."
All of the Islanders participating in the tournament are looking to improve on things they have continually worked on throughout the fall schedule in what will be the final event before the team season starts in January.
"I think this group has great chemistry and a great work ethic," said Moore. "They have a lot of the qualities to be real successful, they just have to keep working hard and growing together."
The team has continued to impress Moore as they come together on and off the court.
"They have made the commitment to be a true team and not just work hard, but to work extremely hard," said Moore. "So far, the results have been good but it is just one match at a time."
