CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer player Jessica Berdan has been selected to take part in the 2014 NCAA Career In Sports Forum, slated for June 5-8, 2014, in Indianapolis. Of over 1,100 who applied, 200 student-athletes across all divisions were selected for the competitive program.
"We're thrilled that Jess has been selected to attend the Career In Sports Forum," head soccer coach Shanna Caldwell said. "It is a highly competitive process with many student-athletes vying to be selected. It's always great to see our student-athletes excel off the field, and I know Jess will represent herself and the Islanders well."
The Career in Sports Forum (CSF) is an annual educational forum hosted by the NCAA that brings together 200 selected student-athletes for four days to learn and explore potential careers in sports, with the primary focus on intercollegiate athletics. The CSF is designed to assist student-athletes in charting their career paths, to give them the opportunity to network and to learn from current athletics professionals.
Berdan, a rising junior from Coppell, Texas, was one of the most involved Islanders in the Student-Athlete Advisory Council this season. She captained the soccer team to a victory in the Islanders Cup, a community service and campus involvement competition among Islanders teams, this past season. She also became a certified Islanders Athlete Mentor this year, helping younger student-athletes adjust to campus life.
On the field, she was one of the leaders of an incredibly young Islanders team, helping lead the program to two wins in the team's first year. She played in 17 games, making 16 starts, and was a key player on the back line for the Islanders defense.
