CORPUS CHRISTI – Freshman forward Yvette Franco has earned honorable mention from the Southland Conference as part of its All-Conference Teams. Franco led the Islanders in scoring in their debut season, netting eight goals and 20 points on the year.
"This is a great accomplishment for Yvette, and I'm really excited for her," head coach Shanna Caldwell said. "Hopefully it's just the beginning of a great career for her. She worked hard all year and continued to be a threat on the field for opposing teams. I think it's also a compliment to us as a team that we did a good job of getting her the ball in dangerous situations."
The Corpus Christi native started off her career with a bang, registering at least one point in her first six games. She posted multi-goal games against Dallas Baptist, UTSA and UNC Wilmington, netting the game winner in the first victory in program history against the Roadrunners on Sept. 6. Following her third multi-goal game of the year, Franco was ranked fifth in the nation in goals per game.
She added a goal in a 2-1 loss to Nicholls on Sept. 22, and posted assists at Oral Roberts and against McNeese State later in the season. She set up Alyssa Miller for the golden goal against the Cowgirls that gave the Islanders their first conference victory in program history.
