Soccer Heads to UTSA for First Road Match

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team will embark on its first road trip of the 2013 season, as it heads to San Antonio for a matchup against UTSA on Friday at 7 p.m. It is the first of three consecutive road games for the Islanders.

A&M-Corpus Christi sits at 0-3-0 on the season, while the Roadrunners are 1-3-0 on the year. UTSA lost a pair of games its opening weekend – to Baylor and Texas A&M – before going 1-1 in last weekend's UTSA Classic against a pair of Southland foes. The Roadrunners knocked off Sam Houston State 1-0 and fell to Lamar 3-1.

UTSA has gotten one goal apiece from Taylor Wingerden and Anissa Munson on the season, while Happy Orere-Amadu leads the team with 12 shots. Bubba Makela has started each of the last three games in goal for the Roadrunners, amassing a 1.14 goals against average and an .826 save percentage.

The Islanders have scored in each of their first three games, but have been on the wrong end of a one-goal contest every time. After a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Houston in the program's inaugural contest, the Islanders fell in a double-overtime heartbreaker, 4-3, against Dallas Baptist. In the most recent contest, Campbell used a strong start to knock off the Islanders, 2-1.

Freshman Yvette Franco has been the offensive leader for A&M-Corpus Christi, as the local product has a team-leading three goals and seven points. Meghan Cordero and Alyssa Miller have also registered single tallies on the season. Senior Audrey Baldwin has been a team leader off the field in addition to being a strong presence in net for the Islanders, posting a .714 save percentage on the season.
