Soccer Adds Two More Transfers for 2013 Roster

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team has added a pair of transfers to its incoming class for this fall. Sara Chandlee (Mansfield, Texas/Iona College) and Kallyn Redona (Las Vegas, Nev./Long Island University-Brooklyn) have decided to continue their careers at the Island University and will be eligible to play for the upcoming fall season.

"With such a high percentage of our team made up of freshmen, getting players with college experience is a huge plus," head coach Shanna Caldwell said. "These two both played a significant amount of college soccer at the Division I level, and they will be able to give our team a boost in its first season."

Chandlee will be a junior at the Island University with two years of eligibility remaining. The defender appeared in 28 games over her two seasons for the Gaels, posting a total of 21 starts. She totaled four shots from the back line, putting three of those on goal. She attended Nolan Catholic High School in Mansfield, and was the Defensive Player of the Year in her time there.

"Sara is a very motivated, focused player and has already built herself quite an impressive resumé at the Division I level," Caldwell said. "Those qualities, in addition to her great passion for the game, will serve as positive examples for the rest of the squad."

Redona will be a sophomore for the Islanders, having three years of eligibility when she arrives on campus. The 5-foot-11 defender played in all 21 games in her debut campaign, making nine starts for LIU-Brooklyn. She played a total of 765 minutes on the year. The native of Las Vegas attended Arbor View High School, where she was a team captain and led the squad to a state championship in 2010.

"Kallyn has the potential to play in a couple of key roles for us including holding mid or center back," Caldwell said. "Her aggressive play and willingness to battle will be key to helping us solidify the middle of the field."

The duo brings the total number of Islanders to 24 – one senior, four juniors, three sophomores and 16 freshmen. The program will kick off its 2013 campaign on August 23 against the University of Houston at the newly constructed Dr. Jack A. Dugan Family Soccer & Track Stadium.
