Golf Bounces Back with Solid Second Day at Rio Verde Invite

RIO VERDE, Ariz. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team had a strong bounce back in the second round of the Rio Verde Invitational on Saturday, shooting a 312 to improve five spots from their position after the first round. The Islanders (322-312—634) are in 13th through the first two rounds of action.

The 312 was the sixth-lowest round of the day at the Invitational. Krista Fenniak led the Islanders with a 75 – the fifth-lowest individual score of the day – while Lindsay Biehler was just behind with a 77. Vanessa Johnson logged a 78 for the second day in a row, while Ana Paredes rounded out the scoring with an 82.

Six players are tied for the overall lead with a 148 through the first two rounds. Montana has three golfers tied for the top spot – Tara Green, Alexa Schendelman and Barbora Bakova – while Xavier (Shane Crutchfield), Wichita State (Alejandra Arellano) and Northern Arizona (Jacquie LaMarr) have one each.

Xavier holds the top spot as a team with a two-round 601 (303-298), with Wichita State (299-304—603) and Montana (298-306—604) close at hand. Host Western Michigan (303-307—610) and Toledo (308-304—612) round out the top five.

The Islanders will take to the Quail Run course at Rio Verde Country Club on Sunday for the final round of the Invitational. The shotgun start is set for 8 a.m., with the Islanders pairing up with Missouri State and Arkansas-Little Rock. A&M-Corpus Christi will start on holes 12-14.
