LAKEWOOD RANCH, FLA. – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf team shot an opening-round 315 at the 36th Annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. Junior Vanessa Johnson led the way with a four-over 76 in the opening round.
"Our scores were decent, but this was one of those days where there were low scores to be had and we weren't able to take advantage of that," head coach Carol Blackmar said. "I know all of our players can trim a couple shots for tomorrow's round, and that should get us back in the hunt."
The Islanders are in a tie for 16th with Florida Atlantic after round one. Host Florida International shot a 287 in the first round to lead the way, while Maryland sits four shots back in second place. Daytona State (293), Southern Miss (294) and Missouri (295) round out the top five teams.
Individually, Mizzou's Taylor Gohn sits atop the leaderboard after posting an impressive five-under-par 67. Brandi Rodriguez (Southern Miss) and Coralia Arias (FIU) each shot 69 through the first 18 holes. Eighteen players shot par or better in round one.
Johnson's score places her in a tie for 36th through the first 18 holes. Senior Lindsay Biehler and freshman Ana Paredes each shot 79 in the opening round, while senior Krista Fenniak and freshman Claudia Galindo delivered matching 81s.
The second round of the Bradley Invite will tee off on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. Updates will be provided at the end of round two on GoIslanders.com and on the official Twitter feed of the Islanders golf team (@IslandersGolf).
