Johnson Sits Second Through First Day of ORU Shootout
TULSA, Okla. – Junior Vanessa Johnson shot a two-round 149 (75-74) to sit in second place through the first two rounds of the ORU Shootout, presented by Bob Hurley Auto Family. The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team sits in a tie for eighth with a 623 (310-313) through 36 holes of action.
"It was really great to see Vanessa bounce back after a rough start to her season last time at Nebraska," head coach Carol Blackmar said. "She looked more like the golfer she was a year ago. And Ana had a really solid day for us as well. We just need to develop more consistency and get everyone going at the same time, and hopefully we can do that tomorrow."
Johnson is one of four players tied for second with a 149, as that quartet sits one shot back of leader Sofie Kuarnstrom of Arkansas-Little Rock. Johnson is joined in second place by Taylor Stockton and Wenny Chang of Lamar in addition to Abigail Laker of Arkansas State.
Ana Paredes, a freshman from San Antonio, had a solid opening 36 holes in second event of her career, going 76-78—154 on the first day of the Shootout to sit in a tie for 25th. Lindsay Biehler posted a 77 in the opening round, but fell back with an 81 in the afternoon to sit in 42nd with a 158. Krista Fenniak (82-80—162, 64th) and Claudia Galindo (92-81—173, 86th) rounded out the scores for the Islanders.
Round three of the ORU Shootout will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Meadowbrook Country Club in Tulsa. Updates will be provided as they become available on the official Twitter feed of Islanders Golf, @IslandersGolf.
