CORPUS CHRISTI – Former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golfer Taylor Slagle has been named to the North team for the 2013 Texas Cup. Slagle, who played for the Islanders from 2010-13, will play in the Cup in October.
"We're so proud of Taylor making the Texas Cup team," head coach Carol Blackmar said. "She had the goal of making the team from the time she graduated, and it's really exciting that she accomplished it. Taylor always has been a great representative of Islanders Athletics and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and we're glad she will get to represent us in this event."
The Texas Cup is a Ryder Cup-style event comprised of the top women amateur golfers in the state. It will be played in October at Horseshoe Bay Golf Club in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Collegiate and high school players are not eligible to compete in the event.
Slagle also advanced to the quarterfinals of the Texas State Amateur Tournament earlier this summer. The Southlake native knocked off No. 1 seed Maggie Neece 4 and 3 to advance to the quarterfinals of the event, where she fell to eventual champion Christine Lin.
