HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi golf team will embark on its third tournament of the fall season on Monday, Oct. 8, when it takes part in the Harold Funston Invitational, hosted by Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State. The 54-hole Invite will be held over the course of two days, with the first 36 holes on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
The Islanders will be one of 12 teams at the event and one of three Southland squads, joining host SHSU and Lamar. Future Southland opponents Houston Baptist and New Orleans will also take part, with Alabama State, Saint Edward's, Texas Southern, Texas-Pan American, Tyler Junior College, Western Texas College and Jacksonville College rounding out the field.
Raven's Nest Golf Course will provide the host course for the event. It will be laid out for a par-71 and is slated to play at 6,067 yards. Play begins at 8 a.m. Monday with a shotgun start.
A&M – Corpus Christi will alter its lineup slightly for the third event of the season. Junior Cristina Reynoso will make her first appearance of 2012-13 for the Islanders, and will be joined by seniors Nikki Dunn and Taylor Slagle, junior Krista Fenniak and sophomore Vanessa Johnson. Johnson is coming off the finest effort of her career, with a seventh-place finish at the ORU Shootout last week.
