CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi golf team will play in four tournaments as part of its 2012 fall schedule, head coach Carol Blackmar announced today. The Islanders will play in tourneys hosted by two conference foes in addition to events in Florida and Oregon during the fall semester.
"With four tournaments, this fall should be a good opportunity to gauge where we are as a team heading into the spring," Blackmar said. "I'm excited to see how our team will rise up against some tough competition right out of the gate."
The Islanders open the fall with a trip to Corvallis, Ore., to take part in the Oregon State Invitational on Sept. 17-18. The two-day event will be hosted at Trysting Tree Golf Club and will feature 54 holes – 36 on Monday and the final 18 on Tuesday.
Next up is a trip to new conference foe Oral Roberts for the annual ORU Shootout on Oct. 1-2 in Tulsa, Okla., an event that the Islanders have visited several years running. Last year, Texas A&M – Corpus Christi finished ninth in the event, with Nikki Dunn placing 11th as an individual to lead the team. The Islanders then head to Huntsville on Oct. 8-9 for the Harold Funston Invitational, where A&M – Corpus Christi finished fourth a year ago.
Closing out the fall schedule, the Islanders will travel to Sarasota, Fla., for the 35th annual FIU Pat Bradley Invitational. The prestigious tournament will feature three rounds, with 18 holes to be played each day on Oct. 21-23 at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. The event will serve as a homecoming of sorts for Dunn, who transferred to the Island University from FIU in 2009.
The Islanders return four of five starters and seven of eight players from last year's squad for the 2012-13 season. For all the latest, like the team on Facebook (Islanders Golf) and follow them on Twitter (@IslandersGolf).
