CORPUS CHRISTI – Rising senior Nikki Dunn of the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi golf team recently put forth a strong performance at the Astor Salver, an open event for amateurs in Berkshire, England. The Harrogate, England, native shot a two-round 149 to finish in a tie for 12th at the event, which was held on Wednesday, June 6.
The Astor Salver was held at the Berkshire Golf Club, regarded as one of the finest in the British Isles. Competitors with a handicap of seven or better were allowed to enter the event, which saw each player play 18 holes on the red course and 18 on the blue course.
In the opening 18, she suffered two bogeys on the front nine, but delivered a clutch birdie on the fourth – one of just five scores under par at the hole, which was the third-hardest on the course. She started the back by going bogey-birdie, delivering a three on the par-4 11th, then closed with five pars and two bogeys for an opening round 76.
In her second round, Dunn jumped out to a strong start with two birdies and two bogeys to sit even heading to the turn. She then posted a birdie on the par-5 11th and another on the par-5 15th to pull to plus-2 on the tournament, but finished her round with fives on each of the final three holes to enter the clubhouse with a second-round 73.
