Dunn's 72 Leads Islanders in Final Round at Rio Verde Invitational
RIO VERDE, Ariz. - Nikki Dunn

shot a third-round 72, the second-best round of the day, to help the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team to a 14th-place finish among a strong field at the Rio Verde Invitational on Sunday. Ryann White shot a 75 to finish 10th at the three-day event, while Dunn finished 12th.

The Islanders shot a 308 on the final 18 holes of the event, their best round of the tournament. Dunn's 72 was one of just three rounds of par or better by the entire field on Sunday. The Islanders finished with a three-day total of 946 (316-322-308). White finished plus-11 with a 227 (74-78-75), while Dunn was just a stroke behind with a 228 (78-78-72)

Eastern Michigan led the way with a 910 (294-306-310) to win the Invitational, while Northern Arizona finished just one stroke back (309-302-300). Michigan placed third with a three-round 913 (300-308-305). Missouri State's Catherine Dolan was the top individual performer, shooting a plus-2 218 (73-74-71).

Dunn started day three on 13, and quickly got under par with a birdie on the par-4 15th. She faltered slightly after opening the front nine, posting bogeys on 1 and 3, but returned to even par with a birdie on the par-3 8th to finish her final round at even par. Dunn was the fourth-best performer on par-3s at the event, shooting plus-3 over 36 holes.

White opened the final round on 13, and after three pars, fell a stroke back on the par-3 16th. After three more pars, she scored six on the par-5 second, but rallied on the rest of the front nine. The junior shot par on holes 3-8, then dropped a birdie on the par-4 ninth to sit at plus-1. Unfortunately, White suffered bogeys on her final two holes of the day to finish with a 75. White led all players on the weekend with 39 pars in 54 holes.

Katie Belser was third among Islanders, shooting 78 on Sunday to finish her three days with a 239 (79-82-78). The Ingleside native shot six bogeys and 12 pars in her final round to place in a tie for 51st at the event.

Cecilia Jeon shot 83 in round three to finish with a 257 (88-86-83) over 54 holes. Cristina Reynoso finished her final round with an 89 to put her one stroke behind Jeon for the event (85-84-89).

The Islanders are now off for the next three weeks before returning to action at the UALR Golf Classic, hosted by Arkansas-Little Rock, on March 28-29.
