The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team shot a 322 on day two of the Rio Verde Invitational to find itself in 14th place (638) at the prestigious 17-team event through two days of competition. Ryann White leads the Islanders with a two-round 152 (74-78), which places her in a tie for 14th.
Nikki Dunn posted a 78 on day two to leave her at 156 through two days, tied for 22nd at the event. Katie Belser posted an 82 on the second day of the invitational to sit at 161, while Cristina Reynoso shot 84 (169 overall) to round out the Islanders scorers. Cecilia Jeon has a 174 (88-86) through 36 holes.
Eastern Michigan leads the way with a 600 through two rounds, while Michigan is six shots behind in second place. The Islanders are seven shots out of 10th place, currently occupied by Ball State. Round two played significantly tougher than round one, as no individual broke par for the day. Akron's Kristen Hill leads all individuals with a two-round 145 (plus-1).
White had a tougher go of it in the second round than she did in the opening 18, delivering four bogeys on the back nine after starting her day on the 10th tee. After another bogey on one, she rebounded with her lone birdie of the round, delivering a four on the par-5 second. But bogeys on five and seven pushed her to a plus-6 78 for the day.
Dunn matched White with a 78 of her own. Her opening nine holes were quite eventful, as, after opening her round on 10, she delivered three birdies, four bogeys and a double to sit at plus-3 through nine holes. She was less dramatic on her closing nine, suffering bogeys on one, three and five, but notching pars on her other six holes to finish the round at 78.
After opening round two with a birdie on 11, Belser hit a rough patch with a bogey and two doubles over the next three holes to move to 4-over. She rallied with three pars and a birdie on 16 over the next four holes to sit at plus-3, but suffered two doubles and three bogeys on the front nine before posting a key birdie on the ninth to sit at 9-over. She finished with a bogey on the 10th.
Reynoso started her round with a birdie on 11, but went plus-6 over the next six holes to sit at 5-over heading to number one. She was able to par that hole, but suffered scores over par on the next five holes to fall to 12-over. The freshman then rallied by finishing her round with four consecutive pars. Jeon earned birdie on 14, her third hole of the day, but four scores of double or higher undid her round at plus-14.
The Islanders will tee off the final round of the Rio Verde Invitational on Sunday at 9 a.m.
