The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi golf team returns to action this weekend at the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz., from Friday-Sunday. The Islanders are one of 17 teams headed to the event, which is hosted by Western Michigan University.
The Islanders are coming off a fifth-place finish at the American Bank Islander Classic on Tuesday. Ryann White led the Islanders' individual finishers in fourth, while Katie Belser was tied for eighth and Nikki Dunn finished in a tie for 15th.
Akron, Arkansas-Little Rock, Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Michigan, Missouri State, Northern Arizona, Ohio, Penn State, Southern Illinois, Toledo, Western Michigan and Xavier will join the Islanders at the event. Five of the teams are ranked in the top 100 in Division I according to GolfStat.com.
The Rio Verde Invitational, in existence since 2003, will be played on the White Wing Course for the first time since 2006. The course will play at a par 72, spanning 6,317 yards with three par-5's on the back nine.
The tournament will be played in three days with 18 holes played on each day. Friday begins with a 1 p.m. MT shotgun, while Saturday and Sunday each start with 8 a.m. MT shotguns. Thursday is the practice round beginning at 1 p.m. MT.
