Top Moment #9: Shaw's Late Three Lifts Islanders Past UCA

Following a successful weekend on the road, the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's basketball team was set to take on Central Arkansas on Thursday, Feb. 13, at the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi, the home of the Islanders.

UCA, a perennial power in the Southland Conference, headed into the matchup with a 9-2 record as a top contender for the conference title proving to be a difficult challenge for the Islanders who were fighting to gain a spot in the tournament with their 5-7 record.

The first half was slow at first, quickly gaining momentum with the Islanders leading by four going into the half. UCA came charging back in the second half gaining a one-point lead, their first of the game, and from there it was a back and forth battle to the very end.

With the clock under the one-minute mark the Sugar Bears had taken a two-point lead before Shola Adebayo drew a foul and stepped up to the line to hit two clutch free throws to tie the game at 42 with just 40 ticks left.

Alissa Campanero carried the ball down the court and made a quick pass to Senior transfer Guard Jasmine Shaw with 10 seconds left on the clock. Shaw took a jab step toward the right side to shake off her defenders then stepped to the left and nailed a game winning three to push the Islanders ahead of the Sugar Bears to a 45-42 victory.

Shaw came up just short of her third consecutive 20-point game, posting a game-high 19 points. No other Islander hit double digits, as the team shot just 28.3 percent from the field. However, the Islanders locked down UCA holding them to just 31.5 percent from the field.
