Top Performance #9: Shaw's Explosive Weekend at UIW and ACU

After a couple of heartbreaking close losses, the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team hit the road to take on Incarnate Word and Abilene Christian, two schools transitioning to Division I.  Senior transfer guard Jasmine Shaw put together back-to-back explosive performances with an average of 27 points per game to lead the Islanders to wins over the Cardinals and Wildcats. The two wins also jumpstarted an eight-game winning streak for the Islanders.

In the opening game of the weekend against the Cardinals, Shaw was on fire for the Islanders, recording her sixth game of the season with 20-plus points, as she was just one shy of her career high with 28 points. She went 11-18 from the field to go along with three triples. The win snapped a four-game losing streak on the road for the Islanders.

Shaw followed her performance with her second game in a row with more than 20 points, as she went 8-of-12 from the field and 6-of-7 from downtown to record a game-high 26 points against the Wildcats. She was so efficient that she scored 13 points in just three minutes and 18 seconds of play during one vital stretch of the game.

In the two games combined, the Cincinnati, Ohio, native nailed 19-for-30 from the field, including 9-for-15 from behind the arc. For her outstanding performances she was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

The vocal leader made an incredible impact during the season and was vital in the team's turnaround. She averaged a team-high 15.3 points per game and was the first Islanders player to be named the Southland Newcomer of the Year. Shaw also collected Second Team All-Southland honors for her impressive efforts.
