Women's Basketball Adds Another Signee
CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's basketball team will have another addition to its fall signing class.
Jennifer Ramirez signed her National Letter of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Royce Chadwick announced on Monday.
"Jennifer is the epitome of what you want a guard to be," Chadwick said. "She has the skills to score, dish, handle the ball and defend. Her finest asset is her ability to quarterback a team. I have seen her play both the point and shooting guard, and do each at a high level. She will be a tremendous asset to our team. She is the ultimate competitor in that she hates to lose."
Ramirez, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., comes to the Island University from ASA Junior College in New York City. Through her first six games for the Avengers, she is averaging 8.7 points and shooting 52.4 percent from the field, to go along with 3.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. She has helped lead her team to a perfect 6-0 start on the young season.
Although the 2014-15 season will be her first for the Islanders, this has not been the first time Ramirez has been recruited by Chadwick. She committed to come to play for Chadwick at Marshall before he came to the Coastal Bend. Ramirez ended up playing in six games for the Thundering Herd in 2012-13 before transferring to ASA for this season of play.
Ramirez played her high school basketball at New York City Lab School. In her junior season she averaged 18.8 points, including a 35-point performance in her team's playoff game, as well as 6.5 assists and 6.5 rebounds a game.
