CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team started official practices today. Head coach Royce Chadwick and his coaching staff had the opportunity to work with the 2013-14 team, which features four returners and 10 newcomers.
The Islanders concluded workouts in August which included a mix of on-the-court drills and scrimmages along with weight room training with Lee Rowland, Director of Strength and Conditioning. The Islanders are now in full swing practice mode and are gearing up for a season that features 15 games in Corpus Christi against some tough competition.
The season will start off in a big way for the Islanders, as they will host the Emerald Beach Hotel Islanders Classic at the Dugan Wellness Center. It will be a four-team tournament featuring Fairfield, Western Illinois and Alabama - Birmingham. A&M - Corpus Christi is scheduled to play its first game of the tournament against Western Illinois on Nov. 8, while Fairfield and UAB will do battle on day one. The following day, the Islanders will take on one of the other two squads at 7:30 p.m.
Season tickets for the 2013-14 season are available at GoIslanders.com or by contacting Sean Kelly in the Islanders Athletic Ticket Office at 361-825-BALL (2255).
