Women's Basketball Releases 2013-14 Schedule

Head women's basketball coach Royce Chadwick and the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's basketball team are excited to announce their 2013-14 schedule. The Islanders will play 15 games in Corpus Christi this year, which will give Islanders fans plenty of opportunities to catch the team in action.

"We are very much looking forward to the season," Chadwick said. "Our schedule allows us the opportunity to open at home in the Emerald Beach Hotel Islanders Classic and close at home with three-straight games in March. We have 15 total chances for our fans to be there to watch the Islanders play. With a ton of new talent, the enthusiasm and anticipation from our team is tremendous."

The season will start off in a big way for the Islanders, as they will host the Emerald Beach Hotel Islanders Classic at the Dugan Wellness Center. It will be a four-team tournament featuring Fairfield, Western Illinois and Alabama - Birmingham. A&M – Corpus Christi is scheduled to play its first game of the tournament against Western Illinois on Nov. 8, while the Fairfield and UAB will do battle on day one. The following day, the Islanders will take on one of the other two squads at 7:30 p.m.

After concluding their homestand with a game against Southern Utah on Nov. 14, the Islanders will make their farthest road trip of the season, heading nearly 1,000 miles to Nashville, Tenn. While in the Volunteer State the team will play games against Belmont (Nov. 19) and Tennessee State (Nov. 21) before returning to Texas to finish its road trip in San Marcos against Texas State on Nov. 27.

The Islanders will then play their first games of the season at the American Bank Center, hosting in-state foes UT – Pan American (Dec. 5) and UTSA (Dec. 8).

After getting a break for finals, A&M – Corpus Christi will be back on the road, heading up to Houston on Dec. 19 to take on Texas Southern followed by a matchup with UT Arlington on Dec. 21. The team will then come back home to take on Huston – Tillotson on Dec. 30 before heading into 2014 for the start of conference play.

The Islanders will kick off Southland Conference play on the road in Conway, Ark., tipping off against Central Arkansas (Jan. 2) before taking on Oral Roberts (Jan. 4).

The first conference game in the Coastal Bend will come Jan. 9 against Northwestern State with the second slated for Jan. 11 against Stephen F. Austin.

Next, A&M – Corpus Christi will make its one and only trip of the season to Louisiana for games against McNeese State (Jan. 16) and Nicholls State (Jan. 18). Then, two Louisiana schools will head south, as the first matchup will feature the Islanders taking on Southeastern La. (Jan. 23) at the Dugan. On Jan. 25, new Southland member New Orleans will come to the ABC for its first meeting with the Islanders.

A tough four-game road trip will then ensue for A&M – Corpus Christi, playing games at Sam Houston State (Jan. 30), Lamar (Feb. 1) and Incarnate Word (Feb. 6), before making its first trip to Abilene Christian on Feb. 8 for the Islanders' first meeting with the Wildcats.

It will be an exciting finish to the season for A&M – Corpus Christi, as five of its final six games will be at home. This homestand will start with games against UCA (Feb. 13) and ORU (Feb. 15) before the Islanders play their final road game Feb. 22 at Houston Baptist.

A week later, the Huskies will make the trip down to Corpus Christi, as the Islanders will host Houston Baptist on March 1. This will mark the Homecoming game for A&M – Corpus Christi, which will be played in the Dugan at 12 p.m. The season will then conclude with games at the ABC against McNeese State (March 6) and Nicholls State (March 8).
