Robinson Will Not Return as Women's Basketball Coach

CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M – Corpus Christi women's basketball coach Robert Robinson will not return for the 2012-13 season, Interim Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby announced today. Robinson posted an overall record of 73-113 at the helm of the Islanders. A national search for Robinson's successor will commence immediately.

"We felt it was in the best interest of the program to go in a new direction," Lazenby said. "We have high standards for our basketball teams, and we will begin a search to bring an individual to the Coastal Bend that can lead our women's basketball program to its greatest heights. We thank Coach Robinson for his service to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, and wish him well in his future endeavors."

Robinson led the Islanders to 24 wins in the 2009-10 season, including a postseason appearance in the Women's College Basketball Invitational. But that was Robinson's only season over .500 in his tenure. The team missed the Southland Conference Tournament in each of the last two years, its first time missing the postseason since entering the league, and posted an overall mark of 11-47 and a 5-27 record in conference play.
