What's Done is Dunn: Vol. 2, Issue 5

What's up Islander fans?!

This weekend your Islanders traveled to Sam Houston State to take on the Bearkats in the second round of conference play.

Friday morning, at 10 a.m we had practice. The bus ride was going to be so long that the coaches decided it would be a better idea for us to practice before we left, and then relax once we got there, and I would have to agree! We left the school at 12 p.m. and had lunch. I ate chicken nuggets. Mmmm Mmmm good! While we were on the bus we watched a movie. I think we watched two movies but I really don't know, I fell asleep before we hit the highway again lol (ya girl has to get her sleep).  When I woke up we had stopped at Buc-ee's! I think it's a Texas thing because I've never seen a Buc-ee's anywhere else in the world lol. Once we left there, we watched, "The Temptations." Everyone on the bus thought they were singers when that movie came on lol. Myeisha (aka Mye) and Zoey (aka Zo) stood up on the back of the bus and started wavin their hands in the air like they were at a concert or something (they're silly).

We arrived to the hotel at about 6 p.m. that evening. Once we got there we checked into the rooms and left for dinner at 7 p.m. We went to a Chinese buffet place, it was really good, but I didn't eat much except for General Tso Chicken and Egg Drop Soup (I <3 Egg Drop Soup). Before we left everyone got a fortune cookie, well my table got two cause we asked for more :). My first fortune cookie was little strange, it said, "A modest man doesn't talk to himself." I didn't like that one much, but my second one said, "As long as you do not start anything new, you'll be fine." I analyzed that just a little bit, and came up with the conclusion that it had two meaning:

(1)    I'm doing too much right now and I need to stop starting things until I finish doing other things (this was my first thought)

(2)    As long as I don't try to do more than I'm capable of doing then I will do fine in the long run. Forcing things cause for problems later which hinders you more than helps you (this was the second thought, I think this pertained to me more on game days)

Sooooooo, I ended up going with my second thought and allowing myself to do what I could and not forcing myself to do what I can't, depending on the situation that presents itself. Being in my faith, "For I can do all things through Christ Jesus who STRENGTHENS me," allows me to press forward through any situation and persevere.

The game started at 2 p.m. which is earlier than normal for us, but we had shoot around at 7:30 a.m. After shoot around we went and ate breakfast. All I ate was biscuits and gravy because I don't eat eggs (they are disgusting to me). Then back to the hotel for a pre-game nap.

Tip-off!!! We were soo energized at the beginning of the game and went up by 14 at the half. But idk what happened after halftime, but it went downhill from there and we never got it back. We ended up losing 75-54. This made it a long quiet bus ride home.

On the way home, we found out that the Queen of Pop and icon Whitney Houston had passed away in her hotel room in Beverly Hills, the afternoon before the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party and the day before the Grammy's! It was a tragic loss in the music industry and to the world. My prayers go out to her 18 year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina and the rest of her family!

On another note, I hope you have a safe and fun Valentine's Day with your loved ones. Shoutout to my other bestie Xinia Zepeda for the Chocolate Covered Strawberries (my favorite), and my best friend Da Da who is going to be my valentine this year lol! Best friends make the best valentines!! Lol

I hope to see you all tomorrow for our Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness game against Texas State, in honor of our athletic academic advisor Jennifer Baker. Wear pink to show your support!! $3 of every single game ticket will benefit breast cancer awareness and patient care. The first 500 fans will receive a Pink drawstring backpack courtesy of CHRISTUS SPOHN. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.!! Can't wait to see you!!!

*Fun Fact* I made a wolf dog today in the University Center for Valentine's Day!! (pic below) Her name is: *drumroll*……………. Twinkle (she has blue eyes)
