Meet Your Islanders: Sara Alva, Women’s Basketball

The Corpus Christi, Texas native walked-on to this season's women's basketball team after playing at King High School in Corpus Christi for coach John Reyes. She averaged 12 points, five rebounds and three assists during her senior season. As a freshman, she earned Freshman of the Year honors and was named First Team All-District, First Team Metro and First Team All-South Texas after totaling 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists. She also lettered in track, volleyball and basketball and was named Newcomer of the Year in track and was an All-Regional qualifier in the 4x2 relay and triple jump. In volleyball, she advanced to the All-District playoffs as a freshman.

During non-conference season, she logged three minutes against Houston Baptist in the Husky Classic and scored her first basket of the season last Wednesday at UTPA in five minutes of play.
