The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will look to get its first Southland Conference win of the year on Wednesday night when they play host to the UT Arlington Lady Mavs. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be on-campus at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The Islanders are 2-14 on the year and 0-3 in Southland play. UTA is 4-11 overall with a 1-2 record against conference teams.
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi is coming off of a seven-point loss to the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions. They led the Lions by as many as 11 points in the second half of the game before losing a tough 80-73 final on the road.
Adrienne Scott scored a career-high 21 points in the game and is the Islanders leading scorer at 12.1 points per game. Anitra Jeffery also made a significant contribution in the game with 16 points while Ashley Darley added 15 on the afternoon. Darley is third on the team at 7.7 points per game while Jeffery comes in at the fourth position while averaging 6.7 points per contest.
Scott is also leading the team in rebounding at 7.3 boards a night while Jeffery is second on the team at 7.1 per game.
UTA is coming off of a 62-56 loss to the Lamar Cardinals in Beaumont this past Saturday. Shalyn Martin scored a game-high 21 points as the Mavs came up short against the defending Southland Conference Champions.
For the Lady Mavs, they are led in scoring by Tamara Simmons at 15.5 points per game while Martin comes in second at 11.0 points every time out. Martin is also the leading rebounder on the team at 7.3 a game, followed by Jasmine Smith at 6.2 a night.
