The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi women's basketball team will take to the road for the first trip of the season when they play in Lawrence, Kan. at the Kansas Jayhawks on Wednesday night. The game is set to tip off at 8:00 p.m. at Allen Fieldhouse.
The Islanders are coming off of a rough start to the season after losses to Arkansas State and Southern in the Holiday Inn Emerald Beach Islanders Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend. The Jayhawks are currently 1-0 on the year and receiving votes in the coaches Top 25 poll.
Through two games, Lauren Smith is leading the team with 13 points per game average after scoring 22 in the season opener against Arkansas State. Anitra Jeffery earned all-tournament honors after just missing a double-double in both contents. She scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds against Arkansas State and followed up with eight points and 11 boards against Southern.
The Jayhawks are 1-0 after a season-opening win over South Dakota by a 73-40 final. Tania Jackson scored 13 points to lead KU to the win. Kansas had three players tied for the rebounding lead with seven each in the game as Carolyn Davis, Aishah Sutherland and Keena Mays each reached the mark.
It will be the first meeting between the two teams. The Islanders will be looking for their first win ever against a Big 12 opponent and just their third in school history over a member of a BCS-level conference.
