The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team dropped a 61-53 decision against the North Texas Mean Green at the American Bank Center on Monday night.

The loss drops the Islanders to 1-3 on the season while the Mean Green improved to 2-1 on the year.

Myeisha Myles led the Islanders in scoring for the second time in the last three games. Myles tallied 18 points, one off her career-high of 19 set the previous Monday against Texas Southern. Myles also tied for the team lead in rebounds with Shaye Montgomery as both players had five.

With two regular starters working back into the lineup from the bench after missing game action, the Islanders committed 34 turnovers to go along with the Mean Green's 35 turnovers as neither team could find their rhythm offensively.

Nyehsa Adams missed came off the bench to contribute five points, four rebounds and four steals after missing the last two games due to injury. Adrienne Scott added four points and one rebound after missing the last game against Texas with an injury.

The Islanders fell behind early and were never able to get back to level against the Mean Green while North Texas did just enough in the end to maintain the advantage they built early on.

In the first half, the Mean Green jumped out to an early lead, taking a 17-6 lead 10 minutes into the first period of play.

After an Adams missed jumper at the 4:18 mark, the Islanders committed seven consecutive turnovers between shot attempts. A made layup by Jade Davis ended the streak to put the score at 30-19.

After being down by as many as 13, the Islanders ended the half with four straight points to cut the lead down to nine, making it 30-21 at the break.

Myles led all Islanders in the first half with nine points while Davis added eight. No Islander collected more than two rebounds in the half, with Montgomery and Diandra Torres each getting a pair.

In the second half, the Islanders continued to cut into the Mean Green lead, getting to within five on a made Myles free throw to make it 30-25.

The lead continued to fluctuate as the Islanders and Mean Green battled back-and-forth, shrinking to as many as five and growing to as many as 16 at the 10:21 mark in the second half.

With 6:10 left in the half, a Myles fast break layup cut the lead to 10 at 50-40 North Texas. After a made three pointer by the Mean Green, Myles came back with a three-point play to keep the spread 10 points at 53-43.

The Islanders could not get much closer however, getting to within eight points at the 30 second mark for the final points of the game at 61-53.

In addition to Myles' 18 points, Davis also scored in double figures with 11 points. Montgomery and Adams added five each as the next highest scorers.

The Islanders now move on to tournament action, traveling to play in the Aggie Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by New Mexico State in Las Cruces, N.M. starting on Friday.

The Islanders will take on Western New Mexico at 3 PM on Friday and will then take on host school New Mexico State at 5:30 PM on Saturday. Times are for the Central time zone.
