Islanders Softball Sets Camp Dates

CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team will be hosting three camps this fall and two in January at Chapman Field. The camps range from age to skills specific and will be under the instruction of Head Coach Stephanie Hughes, Pitching Coach Sarah Pauly and current Islanders players.

The first camp is an Islander hitting clinic on Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Coach Hughes and her staff will emphasis the hitting techniques and drills used everyday at an Islanders practice. The camp is geared toward elementary to high school ages. The age levels will be divided accordingly and will give campers the opportunity to sharpen their swings before heading out to the fall exposure tournaments. The cost is $75 and is limited to 50 hitters.

On Nov. 16, the Islanders will host two clinics, an advanced hitting clinic and a developing pitches clinic. The advanced hitting clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will emphasize how to properly hit different pitches. Coach Hughes and her staff will use different techniques and drills to teach campers how to hit pitches that cross the corners of the plate. The clinic is geared toward elementary to high school ages and will be divided accordingly. The cost is $75 and is limited to 50 hitters.

Following the advanced hitting clinic, the Islanders will offer a developing pitches clinic from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Nov. 16. This session features instruction on proper mechanics of a variety of pitches, including how to throw a drop, curve, rise, screw and change-up. Campers will be instructed by National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) player Coach Pauly, along with Coach Hughes and current Islanders pitchers. Prior pitching experienced is needed and the clinic is open to elementary to high school ages. The age levels will be divided accordingly. The cost is $50 and is limited to 30 pitchers.

The Islanders will offer two camps on Jan. 11, an Islanders pitching clinic and a pre-season hitting clinic. The hitting clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will emphasis techniques and drills that can be used everyday for any skill level. This clinic is geared toward campers who want to get back in the swing of things before high school season starts. The clinic is open to elementary to high school ages and the age levels will be divided accordingly. The cost is $75 and is limited to 50 hitters.

The pitching clinic will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 11 and will cover the proper warm-up, mechanics of pitching and drills that are used on the collegiate level. Coach Pauly and Coach Hughes will teach participants along with current Islanders pitchers. Elementary to high school ages with all experience levels are welcome to attend. The age levels will be divided accordingly. The cost is $75 and is limited to 50 hitters.
