CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Softball program is hosting three camps during the month of June at Chapman Field. The camps range from age to skills specific and will be under the instruction of Head Coach Stephanie Hughes, Pitching Coach Sarah Pauly and eight current Islanders players.
The High School Exposure Camp is a two-day camp that will run June 11-12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The camp is geared for 8-12 graders and will provide the opportunity for campers to showcase their hitting, fielding and base running skills. The camp will allow each camper to experience hitting and fielding drills that are used during a collegiate practice. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the cost is $110.
On June 18, the Islanders will host two sessions of a pitching camp under the direction of Pauly, an Islanders All-American. Two sessions are available with the option of registering for both. The nine-year NPF veteran will lead girls ages 8-17 through a BASICS Session from 10-11:30 a.m. The session will include instruction on warm-ups, mechanics, location, demons, drills, measurements and speed. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and campers must bring their own catcher.
The second pitching camp is the PITCHES Session. This session is geared toward girls ages 13-17 and will start immediately after the BASICS Session and continue until 1 p.m. Pauly will lead campers through the proper techniques of how to throw a drop, rise, screw, curve and change up. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and campers must come warm and ready with their own catcher. The cost for one session is $45 and $70 for both sessions.
The final camp of the summer is the Little Islanders Youth Camp on June 21-22. The camp will begin on June 21 from 1-4 p.m. and finish on June 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The camp is geared for girls ages 7-12 and will instruct campers on all the fundamental aspects of the game. Registration starts at 12 p.m. and the cost is $75.
Islanders softball is more than a team, it's a family. It's bigger than us all. It's being a teammate on and off the field no matter the circumstances. IslanderS softball is getting better when no one is looking. IslanderS softball is having the utmost trust in each other on and off the field and respecting the game we all love. I promise to represent myself, my team, my coaches, and my university to the best of my ability and make those who have come before me proud to say they are an Islander. I will strive to be a part of the hardest working team on campus, sacrificing my time and my body to be the best athlete I can be. I know that everything I do on and off the field is forever leaving my legacy as a Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders Softball player. When I walk off the field for the last time, I will have no regrets. I will leave my heart on the field, knowing that I could have done nothing more.
