Meagan McKinney Named GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Meagan McKinney has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. McKinney earned the award after leading the Islanders' bats this weekend.

McKinney powered the Islanders' offense this weekend with a .529 batting average in a five-game homestand. The senior led the Islanders to a 1-0 victory over Kansas on Thursday with two hits and followed it with seven hits in the Best Western Marina Grand Islanders Classic to help the Islanders to a 2-2 record over the three-day event.  

The New Braunfels, Texas native highlighted the classic on Friday going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI in a loss to Kansas. She also chipped in two hits and three RBI in a 6-5 eighth-inning victory over New Mexico on Saturday. McKinney wrapped the weekend with a double in the Islanders' 7-3 victory over Southern on Sunday. 

McKinney and the Islanders will next be in action when they travel to San Marcos, Texas to compete in the three-day CentryLink Classic on March 1-3.
