CORPUS CHRISTI – The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team has announced its 2013 softball schedule, which includes 21 games to be played at Chapman Field. The Islanders will play a total of 50 regular-season games and will play a three-game series format in the Southland Conference.

"We have put together a challenging schedule for the 2013 season," Head Coach Stephanie Hughes said. "Our non-conference portion is filled with teams from the top conferences in Division I softball. It will no doubt prepare us for our Southland Conference schedule."

The Islanders will once again have a competitive non-conference schedule to open the 2013 slate. The team will start the season in Austin on Thursday, Feb. 7, against Texas on the Longhorn Network. The Islanders will then stay in the state's capitol for the three-day Texas Classic to face Memphis and North Texas. Next the Islanders will travel to Waco, Texas for the Miken Classic, hosted by Baylor University. Northern Colorado, Pacific and Baylor are all set to compete over the five-game series over a span of three days.

The Islanders will take on Kansas on Feb. 21 at Chapman Field before returning to the Island the next three days to host the Best Western Marina Grand Islanders Classic on Friday, Feb. 22 through Sunday, Feb. 24. Kansas, Auburn, New Mexico and Southern University are all on tap to compete.

Following the Islanders Classic, the team will finish the nonconference schedule when they travel to San Marcos, Texas, for the three-day CentralLink Classic against North Texas, Purdue and former Southland Conference champion Texas State with play starting on Friday, March 1.

The Islanders will open the Southland Conference schedule on Saturday, March 9, at home with first-year member Houston Baptist coming to the Coastal Bend.

The Islanders will also play host to Northwestern State, Sam Houston State, Nicholls State and Central Arkansas and will be on the road for games against McNeese State, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin and first-year member Lamar to round out the conference schedule.

Texas A&M - Corpus Christi will play a single game at Chapman Field against UTSA on March 13 before facing the Roadrunners in a doubleheader in San Antonio on April 17 in nonconference action.

On Sunday, May 5, the Islanders will honor Megan McKinney on senior day against Northwestern State.

The 2011-12 Islanders finished with an 18-23 overall record and tallied an 11-9 Southland mark in Hughes' first year. The Islanders advanced to the Southland Conference Tournament for the third straight year. The squad returns nine letterwinners this season and will welcome four newcomers.
