Greta Cecchetti Named GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week
CORPUS CHRISTI - Greta Cecchetti of Texas A&M - Corpus Christi softball team has been named the GoIslanders.com Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Cecchetti earned the award following her impressive two complete-game shutouts.
Cecchetti led the Islanders to two victories last week while holding her opponents scoreless in 17.0 innings. She also retired a combined 12 batters.
On Monday, she shut out the Texas State Bobcats' offense in 10 innings. The senior struck out six Bobcats, while issuing just one walk. With the 1-0 victory, the Islanders snapped the Bobcats nine-game winning streak.
The right-hander propelled the Islanders' defense on Friday against UT Arlington with her fourth win of the season. Cecchetti limited the Mavericks to just two hits in seven innings of work while striking out six batters in the Islanders 1-0 win.
