Texas A&M – Corpus Christi sophomore Peter Nagy has been named the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Nagy, who hails from Budapest, Hungary, is a perfect 5-0 in Southland Conference matches this season, going 3-0 in singles at the No. 1 position and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
In addition to his perfection in Southland Conference matches, Nagy has won 11 straight matches during the season.
This past week, Nagy won at No. 1 singles and doubles against Nicholls, winning 6-2, 6-3 in singles after an 8-5 win alongside Gergo Weidinger in doubles.
Nagy and the Islanders will try to clinch their sixth consecutive Southland Conference Championship this week when they face Lamar on Thursday, April 18 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
A win against the Cardinals on Thursday would give them the title and No. 1 seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament, while a win there and against Texas – Pan American on Saturday, April 20 would give them the championship outright.
The April 20 match will also senior day for Andrew Maingot and Weidinger. The two players will be recognized for their contributions to the Islanders program throughout their careers.
The Islanders will take part in the Southland Conference Tournament starting on April 26, at the Thompson Family Tennis Center in Beaumont.
