CORPUS CHRISTI – Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Men's Tennis sophomore Peter Nagy was named the Southland Conference's Co-Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon, sharing the honor with freshman Fabian Zierleyn of Oral Roberts.
It is the first Southland honor of Nagy's career, and the first of the 2013 season for the Islanders. Last year Nagy was a First Team All-Southland pick at No. 2 singles and was also the league's Freshman of the Year.
Nagy won his doubles match alongside Odon Barta at the No. 1 position against Nevada, taking an 8-7 (7-1) final over Victor Ouvrard and Robert Allan.
In singles action, Nagy once again faced off against Ouvrard, this time earning a quick 6-2, 6-2 final over the No. 1 player from Nevada.
Nagy is one of the top players in the Southland Conference this year, and his only loss came against the No. 1 player, Samir Iftikhar from No. 69 New Mexico. Iftikhar is nationally ranked and one of the top tennis players in the country.
The Islanders will be in action next on Thursday at No. 15 Texas in Austin. The match will be televised on the Longhorn Network with a start time of 6 p.m.
