HOUSTON – In the second day of the Rice Galleria Fall Invitational that featured numerous rain delays, Peter Nagy came through with another huge victory for the Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's tennis team on Saturday night. Nagy beat Idan Mark of Tulane by a 6-3, 6-3 final to reach the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association-sanctioned event hosted by the Rice Owls.
After the teams played until 10:30 p.m. the night before, play started at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium on the Owls campus before being forced indoors to the Metropolitan Racquet Club in Houston.
"I thought Peter showed a lot of poise and made very good adjustments as his matched moved from outdoors to indoors," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "I thought he played the right style, made key adjustments and showed a lot of grit and determination throughout the match."
A day after beating Peter Frank from host Rice in the first round, Nagy came through with another big win in the semifinals. He took down Idan Mark by a 6-3, 6-3 score to move into the finals. Tulane's Mark is the No. 1 singles player on the team and was ranked as high as the No. 76 spot in the ITA national singles rankings during the spring of 2012.
Nagy will face Joe Young, also of Tulane, in the finals on Sunday.
The Islanders sophomore won his first fall tournament of the year in the Marco & Co. Catering Islanders Open against teammate Matt Westmoreland, and will be looking to repeat the feat with another ITA-sanctioned tournament win.
