Texas A&M – Corpus Christi men's tennis player Aurelien Tave was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week for his efforts during the past week of play, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
"You will not find a more dedicated, hard-working and motivated guy than Aurelien," said Director of Tennis Steve Moore. "He has devoted all his heart to his senior season, and he has put in so much time and so much sacrifice. He carries tremendous respect on our team."
The senior from St. Gilles les Bain, Reunion Island picked up another win at No. 2 singles and at No. 1 doubles to help the Islanders to a 4-3 road win over UT Arlington to improve to 1-0 in the Southland Conference. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi improved to 28-1 in Southland Conference Tournament and regular season matches since 2008 with the win over the Mavericks.
In doubles play, Tave teamed with Peter Nagy to take a 9-7 final at the No. 1 position, clinching the pivotal doubles point for the Islanders.
In singles, Tave battled in the first set, taking a very close decision in tiebreak before dominating the second set for a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 win over Soren Goritzka at the No. 2 position to clinch the final point. The win at No. 2 singles gave the Islanders a 4-3 road win in their first Southland Conference match of the year.
The team is now 8-9 on the season, and 1-0 in conference.
Texas A&M – Corpus Christi is back in action Tuesday, April 3, in Edinburg against Texas – Pan American.
