Aurelien Tave Named Student-Athlete of the Week

CORPUS CHRISTI – Senior Aurelien Tave has been named the Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Pepsi. Tave earned the award for his victory in the men's singles draw at the Islanders Open last weekend.

Tave won the Islanders Open on Tuesday night, beating teammate Matt Westmoreland 6-1, 6-1 for the win in an ITA-sanctioned fall tournament. The senior from St. Gilles les Bains, Reunion Island, used his experience to his advantage against his younger Islanders teammate to take the title.

In all, Tave competed in five singles matches during the tourney, with all of them being straight-set victories. He made his way through a talented field, beating players from UTSA, Abilene Christian and Tyler Junior College.

He was also part of the winning doubles team with teammate Pietro Jordao. The duo won three matches to take the doubles championship.

Last season, Tave finished with the best record on the team at 14-7 and earned Southland Newcomer of the Year honors.

The men's tennis team will next be in action on Oct. 20 at the ITA Texas Regionals in College Station, Texas.
