Laurent Montoisy named Southland All-Academic for second time
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis senior Laurent Montoisy received yet another honor on Wednesday after being named to the Southland Conference Men's Tennis All-Academic team. The honor is the second of his career and he was an automatic selection after being named the Player of the Year in the league.
The top Islanders player this past season excelled both on the court and in the classroom. He held a 3.01 GPA in finance through this past year and it is his second time on the team after being named to the 2009 team as well.
The native of Lasne, Belgium finished his Islanders career with a record of 17-2 against Southland Conference opponents and was a two-time First Team All-Southland member as well as a second team selection during his freshman year. He was named both the Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year during his career.
After a 5-1 mark in Southland play and a second team all-conference honor at No. 1 singles, Montoisy received the 2008 Freshman of the Year award from the league.
In 2009 he was named first team all-conference at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles as he helped his team to a second-straight regular season and tournament championship as well as an appearance in the NCAA Championships.
Montoisy redshirted during the 2010 season before coming back for his senior season in 2011.
This past season he was undefeated in singles matches against league competition while being named First Team All-Southland at No. 1 singles and received the Player of the Year award. He led his team to yet another regular season and tournament title and their third NCAA appearance in four years. He was also named the league's Player of the Week four times during the year.
He received the Player of the Week honor a total of six times in his career. Overall, he finished with a 38-18 career record against some of the toughest competition in the nation.
