The No. 70 Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team will face the No. 5 Baylor Bears on Friday in the opening round of the NCAA Championships. The two teams will play a match beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday from the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. The Bears are hosting one of 16 NCAA Regionals on campus for the 1st and 2nd rounds of the tournament.
The Islanders come into the match with a mark of 15-9 overall and earned a berth into the field by winning the Southland Conference Tournament.
Laurent Montoisy is 12-6 on the season and will play the No. 1 position for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. James Langford will play No. 2 singles, Aurelien Tave will take the No. 3 spot, Matt Westmoreland will play the No. 4 position, Gergo Weidinger will see action at No. 5 singles and Andrew Maingot will complete the lineup at No. 6 singles.
Baylor is 19-4 overall on the season and are in the tournament by virtue of an at-large bid following a 4-3 loss to Oklahoma at the Big 12 Championship semifinals.
Their top player is nationally-ranked John Peers. The No. 19 player in the nation finished the season with a record of 29-10 and went 17-5 in dual match singles. Five-of-six singles players for Baylor are ranked with Peers being the highest, as well as No. 68 Sergio Ramirez playing No. 2, No. 102 Roberto Maytin playing No. 4 singles, No. 97 Kike Grangeiro play the No. 5 position and No. 98 Dennis Lengsfeld rounding out the lineup at No. 6 singles. The only unranked play is Jordan Rux who will play the No. 3 spot in singles.
