Men's tennis team hits the road in search of Southland Conference Championship

The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi men's tennis team will travel to San Antonio on Thursday for a showdown with UTSA to determine the 2011 Southland Conference Championship. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio.

The Islanders are currently 12-9 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Southland Conference after beating Texas - Pan American on Monday. The team has gone 24-1 in its last 25 Southland matches (regular season and tournament) over the past four seasons. A win on Thursday would give Texas A&M - Corpus Christi its fourth-straight Southland Conference title in the regular season.

UTSA is 9-7 on the year and 3-0 in league matches. If the Islanders win the match, they will complete an unbeaten scheduled in league matches to claim the title. If UTSA picks up the victory, they can win the complete their championship run by defeating UTPA on April 16 in Edinburg.

Last time out, Texas A&M - Corpus Christi continued their quest for a championship with a 6-1 win over UTPA. The team won the doubles point as well as all but one singles match to pick up the victory.

UTSA dropped a non-conference match by a 6-1 final against No. 17 Texas Tech its last time on the court.
