For the third time this season, Laurent Montoisy has been named the Southland Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after a vote by the league sports information directors on Tuesday.
The senior from Belgium completed his week with a 3-1 record, losing only to the No. 91-ranked singles player in the nation, Ed Corrie of Texas. After the loss to start the week, Montoisy went 3-0 the rest of the way, beating the No. 1 singles player from Middle Tennessee in the opening round of the HEB Tournament of Champions and then repeating the feat against the No. 1 player from Purdue in the semifinals.
The victory helped the Islanders to the finals of the HEB, where he led the No. 1 player from No. 50 BYU by a set when play was stopped due to the Cougars winning the dual match.
Montoisy was previously named Player of the Week following the opening week of the season on Feb. 2 and then again on Feb. 22 following a Texas A&M - Corpus Christi upset of No. 49 TCU.
He will be back in action next at the Rice Galleria Invite on March 18-20 in Houston. The Islanders will take on Central Florida, South Florida and Rice in the three-day event.
